Savage Mountain Punk Arts is an organization dedicated to the role of punk arts in a variety of media (most notably music, visual arts, fashion, and literature) in Appalachian culture from the 1970's to today in a regional, national, and international context. This includes, but is not limited to, the presentation and exhibition of punk arts, educational efforts about the broader cultural importance of punk, and support for the creation and distribution of new works.
Since 2016 Savage Mountain Punk Arts has brought over 100 artists to stages all across Western Maryland, Northern West Virginia, and South Central Pennsylvania, Â and fostered a revival of punk musicians in the region. Local and regional acts get to share the stage with nationally renown artists such as The Queers, Sloppy Seconds, Richie Ramone, Electric Frankenstein, and the Supersuckers as well as major up and coming acts like The Ravagers and Suzi Moon.

After a long winter stuck inside, we invite music fans to leave their houses with an outdoor show featuring original Appalachian punk rock. We keep the DIY spirit alive, too, beyond the music with craft vendors, artisan makers, and food trucks reminding us punk is an aesthetic not just a type of music.
PunktoberFest

Appalachia maintains its superstitions, its sightings of Big Foot and mothman, its ghost tales and folk stories of the macabre. PunktoberFest celebrates that tradition by bringing horror punk bands alongside more traditional punk rock to capture the energy of the solstice and keep the evil spirits at bay.

Since the late 1970s–since The Flesh Pencils were playing local bars–punk has been a part of the Western Maryland community. Savage Mountain Punk Arts celebrates this history by collecting and gathering flyers, recordings, photographs, ephemera, and oral history to document and maintain this important artistic history.
